College Park, Md. — Prince George’s County Fire Department reported a Prince George’s County public school (pgcps) bus caught fire in College Park, Maryland.
Several children had to be evacuated from a school bus after the vehicle caught fire Monday afternoon.
The fire occurred shortly before 5 p.m. in the 9600 block of 51st Avenue in College Park, according to a tweet from the department.
It is unclear what caused the fire and how many students were on the bus, but all the children were safely evacuated without any reports of injuries, said Mark Brady, a spokesman for the Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department.
Prince George’s County Schools says the bus involved in the fire was taking students home from Robert Goddard Elementary and Glenarden Woods Elementary.
resident who witnessed the scene opened the door of the bus and helped all the children into her home, Brady said. This is yet another issue involving PGCPS and young children caught up in danger. Pgcps parents must demand accountability to help move the system forward. Kevin Maxwell, Rushern Baker III and his incompetent team needs to go. Politics of deception never advanced the world or build families. Say No to “political cronyism-nepotism refresher” Say No to “epicenter for Corruption and Maladministration.”
It’s time to demand changes ASAP in PGCPS.
The bus belongs to Prince George’s County Public Schools, Brady said. It is unclear where the children were traveling from. But obviously they were in shock to see their bus catching fire nearby.
