The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision involving a police cruiser. The collision occurred this morning in Langley Park. Investigators are currently working to identify the pedestrian and notify his family.
At about 2:30 am, the involved officer was traveling westbound in the 2000 block of University Boulevard in his marked cruiser when he struck the pedestrian in the roadway. The officer rendered aid to the pedestrian until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
The preliminary investigation reveals two other vehicles nearly struck the pedestrian prior to the officer striking him. Preliminary, the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time. Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the collision.
